Which ones shall I bin?

I've got several shots from recent shoots (this year), and I know some of them are similar. I can't decide which ones to keep or lose.

Any words of advice? :?

Absolute keepers ... for being either excellent examples of your diversity and expression, or just high quality

These for the bin ... for either being utterly generic or duplicates with better existing versions ...

The rest of your folio goes right across the spectrum ... you have some interesting nods to film noir and some fun cultural references ... there are some good ideas, which fall down on execution and some bog standard folio type shots at various levels of quality from fantastic to ok-ish ... needless to say I want to work with you based on the first three images I chose and would not have noticed you if I had only seen the second three images ...
all that said I dont think you need to pander to peoples tastes ... just put the stuff YOU like in your folio.

I tend to disagree with this comment.

You will regularly, if not always find me showing off the produce of my shoots asking for opinions.

I think it's essential to listen to your market, if 10 photographers prefer "image A" and yourself, a couple of photographers and a few models prefer "image B" then I would listen to those 10.

After-all, they are the ones that will book you.
They're basically providing you with the ammunition to help that process.

It all depends what you want out of it.

thank you both, I've pruned back a few. Probably could do with losing a few more but will see after I've done my next shoot }:}

Seeking a majority consensus is one thing ... however you have to take into account the sample you are drawing from is far too small to be meaningful, you have no demographics about the people making those decisions (for instance how many are choosing because that would make them want to work with you or how many just like the pictures for esoteric reasons) and most importantly without people giving reasons why they like or dislike any images you have nothing to draw a baseline with ... What is worse still is when this method is employed greater weight is often given to choices made by people with a higher standing than others ...

If you want to really use this method go out and get some proper market research done ... If you actually care about what response images get with a view to promoting yourself better then having a handful of people make arbitrary decisions, possibly with agendas on an Internet forum is about as useful as a chocolate teapot ... In the absence of real market research you are almost certainly going to be better off making your own choices and using images you know will work for you based on previous observation and experience ...

Given that I suggested removing two particular pictures but that Matt then suggested those two as "absolute keepers", I think we have a good example of the sorts of conflicts which can arise from asking on here.

However, given that Matt is the one out of the two of us who has expressed a specific interest in working with you, I think you have a clear resolution of that conflict, at least in the short term.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you come up with next, though!
