I went to see her picture on Wednesday, and it well deserves the prize. My four year old grand daughter was well impressed.

I too am glad I worked with her before she became famous, and hope to do so again in the not too distant future.

Congratulations to all concerned.

Well done but it does make you wonder what their idea of a portrait is

I saw it on Tuesday and I still maintain it looks more like Andromeda than Prometheus! Still a buzz to see a painting of someone I've actually met on the wall of the National Portrait Gallery

Had some other thoughts on the exhibition, but I've already posted on the subject.

I had to resurrect this thread as I've just got back from the National Portrait Gallery. I'd completely forgotten about the portrait of Holly & just happened upon it whilst walking around the exhibition.

Two things to note:
1 - it's an absolutely fantastic painting
2 - it's HUGE!

The exhibition is on for another 7 weeks (and it's free!) - go see it :o)

quoting post from mattharper:

Does that mean I can call my topless images Portraits?

Quote from the Tate glossary

A portrait is a representation of a particular person. Portraiture is a very old art form going back at least to ancient Egypt, where it flourished from about 5,000 years ago. Before the invention of photography, a painted, sculpted, or drawn portrait was the only way to record the appearance of someone. But portraits have always been more than just a record. They have been used to show the power, importance, virtue, beauty, wealth, taste, learning or other qualities of the sitter. Portraits have almost always been flattering, and painters who refused to flatter, such as William Hogarth, tended to find their work rejected

So yes

Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself
