I use Photoshop (Elements, 2.0) only very occasionally, if I have a picture with converging verticals that need straightening.

However, without any apparent reason (no new programmes or suchlike) my Avast! antivirus has taken a dislike to Photoshop, flags it as suspicious, and shuts down Windows 7.

Can anyone please suggest a simple solution ? Nothing technical, please - I`m easily baffled!

I replied without reading your question properly. Sorry about that.

Most of the anti virus programs have a users forum which would be a good place to post this.

I would suggest checking if your program has an exceptions table where you can enter things it should allow to run.

There is also the possibility that your photoshop has been corrupted and avast is doing it's job correctly

I don't use Elements but the full version of PhotoShop periodically downloads updates and it is possible something in an update is setting your AV system off- in which case returning the PC to a previous setting predating the update might solve the problem.

Download and run Malwarebytes, if that doesn't find a problem, either tell Avast to ignore the warning it's getting from Elements, or change your anti virus software.

Caution: Internet message boards are not a playground for the hyper-sensitive. NOTHING here (especially my 'attitude') should be taken too seriously.

Many thanks to everyone for suggestions.

I downloaded Malwarebytes, which performed a "quick scan" of more than 186,000 items, but detected no problems.

Why Avast should suddenly have intervened (when everything has been working normally for months, and no updates or modifications have been added) I can`t imagine. I can ask them - but I bet I shan`t understand the answer !

Again, thanks to all.
