Discuss here. Why is it that sites like Model Mayhem and Star Now are raking in the talent from both Australia and overseas, whilst over here the users are bemoaning the lack of action?

Isn't a website or forum only really as good as the people who are members of it?

Is there anything you don't like about NM that prevents you from coming here and contributing to it?

Some have complained this site is not very user-friendly and difficult to navigate, but in the last 8 years I have been a member I have not had any problems with it. The only time I did once was when a model used this forum to bad mouth me to any models who indicated interest in shooting with me after I had disagreed with her stance on the gaming industry, but that was years ago and she's pretty much moved on.

A sites success depends on the people who use it. I reckon that Lloyd Ross and James Hussein ought to do a spring clean and get rid of the flakey models and photographers on here, as well as those who have not contributed to a forum or updated their profile in at least the last 12 months. It shows that they are not serious about modelling if they're not going to bother.

I am still going to continue with my photography next year and post to this forum. Let's see more models and photographers here taking advantage of what NM has to offer and do something about it instead of complaining "where is everybody?!"

:-)

The vast majority have moved to another site, which has an owner who actually gives a toss....is innovative, and bothers to answer people's emails....

From what i can see star now does not attract models who do nude i have not put up any images there just in case i would scare off potential models. There are very few. It is more geared to models going into TV, theatre and things of that nature so there is an immediate pay back in terms of publicity. As far as MM is concerned i do not know it just seems big but have read it is being investigated for certain practices

I like your positivity It makes a change - A nice change

Unfortunatly though, I think it is to little, to late, most people have long gone from this site. I agree why people wouldn't want to pay for a site where the owner doesn't give a toss though - But it is a shame.

James should of just given the site to me :P :P

I hate MM, it's like MySpace, you can't leave references, it's mostly American based, pretty pointless to me really....

It is mostly american based as is a lot of the modelling industry but there are some brilliant photographers on there. It's easy to think that i thought so at first

There are brilliant photographers everywhere though. But I am looking for models, and a primarily American based site is not going to be the place for me to find them when there are perfectly good UK sites that do the same.

The site used to be good, it has been rapidly losing members for a good few years now. I await with baited breath as to whether or not the domain name is re registered in 2013'

I just leave references for models on their tag spaces on MM. Easy as pie!

But yeah, it'd be good to see some Australian owned and operated model websites out there. Shame that Ozmodel is gone now, Ausmodels has some very dodgy rip-off models on there charging a premium when they've had no real industry experience. All Aussie Models and Modelspace were two good Australian model sites that bit the dust far too early, unfortunately. Time For Print doesn't have a lot going on it anymore either.

With Star Now, there are many casting calls on there for nude models, actors and artists and many of the participants on it are willing to do nude work in certain circumstances. It was a great site for talent but the admins booted me off a few years ago when I put out a casting call for musicians for a band that is out to endorse the nudist and naturist lifestyle. :-(

I currently have 8 tabs open in my browser, all are social networking, gallery or photography/modelling sites:

Facebook
Purpleport
DeviantArt
Fetlife
Pbase
Model Mayhem
500px
Net Model

Net Model has a lot of competition - whether it's to contact models or a place to post your photos, and it has fell way behind.

Also there are no Australian models on here anymore. I think the last time I got a model through here was late 2009 and that was a model from the UK. I can't even remember the last time I booked an Australian model through this site (it was probably 2009, maybe even 2008!)

No Aussie models on here -> I can't justify paying for a membership -> can only post a very limited number of photos -> can't customise forums so can't keep up with forum posts (although they're less frequent these days) -> no longer bother visiting NM.

Purpleport is a fabulously designed site, but suffers from lack of Aussie participation - hence I can't justify a paid membership on there either. I'm only using it at the moment because of the free one month's paid membership all PP members got as a Christmas present.

I shot bondage with 21 new models in 2012, more than I have in any other year. And nearly all of them were sourced through either Facebook or Fetlife, often in combination with attending group shoots and the like.

Michael.
I have sent nine paid work e-mails to models back in 2010 and 2011 and not a single so called *model* bothered o reply.
50 from MM and approx 45% bothered to reply so at least a response and I made many of them $$$
Star Now is full of morons who dont feel that any paid work is good for clientelle and although I made many girls a lot of money other photographers like myself have had their folios removed because we offered paid nude work on a site that requires all participants be 15 years of age and of an M rating status. Even though my job offers requested all participants be of a minimum of 18 years of age and have proof of ID.. the site killed work opportunities for all parties and deleted my portfolio as they did to other photographers. Moronic !!
Girls that set up accounts and are looking for paid work but can't be bothered taking the time to reply frustrate all photographers that offer paid work particularly if they tick the *genre* boxes and work within that genre. However if they aren't *Spoon fed* and handed everything on a plate then it appears that why bother replying ?
Generation ME !!! says it all.
I gave up bothering on this site ages ago and given the poor options available- why would any one bother to pay for wasting time on this site.
Management who don't listen to serious issues or requests do so at their own peril.

Have to agree with Rimfire. Starnow seem to be a bunch of moralistic hypocrites.
Moralistic because they don't allow job offers for nude work that makes models money in magazines. (Sex / nudity etc is bad)
Hypocrites because they do allow "artists" to advertise for nude models where the work may be non paid.
Also because they allow postings from companies (movie and TV) that do sometimes feature nudity and adult style entertainment.

Net-model - suffers from a lack of follow through and general apathy.
They still have stacks of models and photographers that come up in search results with last activity 3 or 4 years ago and images just as old.

Just did an open search for female models in QLD and was allowed to view 50 out of 513 results. That means 463 models there do not have a hope of receiving any messages or even having their folio viewed by all the photographers who are free members. Is there a message there to models ?? - don't bother!!!!
Of the 50 I viewed 13 were active in 2013 of which 2 had deleted all images, and 22 active in 2012 (4 deleted) and 15 last active in 2011. Why are they still there on the site??

I had a rather confusing experience on star now recently. I did a search for TF then asked whether any of the models did nude and stressed this was an artistic style not pornographic. I got a reply from star now warning me that nude was not TF. It is rather peculiar because a lot of the models described in the TF search are international. There does seem to be something wring with the way they are classing their models They stressed that nude work must be paid for

The 50 you were able to view would have been the most recently active so the 463 models you couldn't see wouldn't have read your message anyway. They were last active in 2011 or earlier.

Most models don't even bother to log into this site anymore. I get FAR more models logging in on MMayhem.

So I have 99% forgotten about this site.

Saw post on one of my few log ons these days. Previously was very active paid gold member and got a lot of work from here, but pointless in paying now as a lot of previous models I've worked with no longer bother with site. Any shoots I now arrange are through other sites, so think NM not likely to make a come back for UK based photographers and Models.
Of course just my opinion.

That is now. That restriction would apply even if there were 1000 active models in 2013 so my point still applies re the restrictive practices being the killer for this site right from the very start.
And the basic point still is that they need to clean out their database of all inactive models and photographers.

Personally I dont like MM i got thrown off cause my casting was wrong i dont get any grief else where i dont miss that site at all plus you cant advertise your self as an adult model either they deem it porn funny thing is most american models actually have open leg shots in there portfolio but they condemn adult castings. The site says one thing but does the opposite plus they aint very friendly either when you have a problem.
