I'm in the process of updating my web site, being galvanised into action by missing out on an opportunity. Of all places I was on a speed awareness course having passed a camera at 37 in a 30 zone.

Next to me was a very attractive 40 year old (I guess) lady who was very friendly and would have made a great commercial lifestyle model. I felt I couldn't ask her to model as I had run out of business cards and my site was not showing the sort of work that would have suited her. I didn't feel I could show her my model site pages for the same reason and decided to let the opportunity go.

So one of this year's resolutions is new business cards and website. If you are approaching strangers, I think a business or z card is essential for reference and credibility.

The stable door is bolted.

Anyone else got some New Year's Photographic Resolutions?

Hi Ace,

I feel your pain. I could have been an angler when I think of the number who have got away.

Moo is your friend.

Huge Hairy Jeremy

Remember, Trolls' brains are silica based and only function properly at temperatures lower than minus 72 degrees Kevin.

Ha ha Jeremy! That makes me a latent fisher of potential models! Thanks too for the prompt re Moo, I'll check them out when I'm ready.

So, who else has New Year photographic resolutions?

I've missed too many opportunities for the same reason.
Pondered long and hard about cards, mostly on design and content.
I do however load images onto my google drive and use that as a reference, or direct potential victims to my instagram account.

Instagram. Good point Fredericks! I'm not on there but know it is a good place for bookings and showing work. I gather they had a clamp down on topless stuff but it wouldn't worry me as I'm looking for a fairly tame/vanilla platform for prospective models.

The problem with social media accounts is where do you stop? I have Twitter and Facebook which I find draw different audiences. I've never had a commercial booking from Facebook and have never had a portrait booking from Twitter. The problem is websites and social media accounts all have to be regularly updated.

If you let either go without updates for any length of time, people think you have fallen off the planet. Certainly and old looking website is worse than none at all.

InstatPrint is where I get all my printing done... quality products & quality.

I messed up the design of my - current business card - I just don't like the font when printed....

Model work is more just to practice with kit for me... no intention of doing anything other than I'm doing with it so not an area I push....

For my business photography I've just created a premium - own domain - WiX website & just gotten into Instagram.... with instagram you can create an Icon that they can scan with their mobile to get to your portfolio... ( much easier than typing ) could be an idea to try...

Obviously being a US company they have a huge issue with nudity so fully clothed fashion & head shots may be the best way in.

Just completed my speed awareness course... quite informative I thought it was too.

Mine is to separate my photography by name. NoNoizePhotography for all my nude/adult/glamour and weirdness, then a new name for my other shots which have a more family/business/event type feel. Just have to think of a name for that side of things

The Instagram scan logo thing is news to me, thanks for the heads up. I'm not on Instagram and need to work out if it suits my market.

The problem with websites and social media is that not keeping it up to date is worse than not having it at all. If you are on all the social media platforms, updating takes quite a lot of time.

I understand the need to separate the two styles of photography. As members of modelling sites we tend not to notice that the general public are more prudish than in previous years.

Mens mags are now in sealed bags and not sold by major outlets, it's rare to see a topless scene in TV or even film drama and the now defunct Page 3 is regarded as soft porn.

I lost a commercial client because they were shocked to see a vintage fashion shoot involving a one piece bathing suit on my site! So, I've done the same and split my commercial and model work.

As for a new name, how about....LotsaNoizePhotography!
