I guess in some ways the writing was on the wall when things went quiet soon after the update but now it is confirmed. Matt has announced that Purestorm will be closing. Probably in February.

good to hear

have not been there for years, having been slagged off by the management

if we could lose the perple one as well it would please me me even more

I particularly hate websites that are difficult to navigate and ignore the ones run by people who do not understand what a customer is

when I ran a large studio (BAKERY) we had a model/photographer site for folios and bookings that just grew and grew and only got hate mail from one publicly acknowledged idiot

sadly it made sense to drop it when the studio closed

My free, very old fashioned studios for hire site still has about 1000 live listings
It had nearly 250,000 hits in the last 4 weeks

I was on there - first one I joined way back when - though it just died off became less & less active then the IMHO terrible upgrade just made it unusable for me so binned my account...

People may despise the P' site however it is the only one really active & continuing to grow.... I don't book many shoots a year though not done one from here for the longest time.. Sept 2017....

No surprise there, and good riddance. Given the childish arrogance and gross inefficiency shown by the management I'm surprised it didn't fold years ago.

I am logged in to this site and the purple one - on the purple one there are 1431 members logged in as I type this - on here there are three members logged in - it is a shame.
I used this site exclusively for a long time but there are now so few active members that it is difficult to justify logging in.
I log in here maybe once a fortnight and there are usually 4 or 5 new members in that time, on the purple one there are a few hundred in that same time period.
Admittedly only a small percentage of the models on there actually become "active" members and have shoots, but a small percentage still adds up to a lot of working models.
Purestorm was quite a good site at one time but the membership dwindled and activity seemed to stop - contacting other members was difficult as most models rarely logged in.
We desperately need more decent sites to network with models, MUA's and studios.

The closing date for Purestorm is posted as 28th February so a week to download any details in messages, save your pages showing past feedback etc.

https://www.purestorm.com/forum/read-thread/1/295539/closing-date---28th-feb

I agree the layout change was a bad move at least for those who main internet access is a computer or large screen tablet rather than a phone.

Over the years I arranged more shoots on PS than any other site but times have changed.

Facebook & Twitter get part of the blame but I have never seen how to search for a model actively seeking bookings or put up a casting models will find on either.

A bit of a shame after Matt made the final effort but I did warn privately that the launch needed to be when fully ready as he only had one shot to make the impact needed.

I’m into convinced it is a,l down to Facebook and similar sites though. Sadly the seeds were sown a few years back when Matt allowed some quite arrogant mods to run amok. While I never had reason to clash with them I knew many good hard working models intelligent models that ended either leaving or getting suspended. Simply politely challenging some dubious decision was enough no matter how good your references. Then there was the annoying purple text on you posts if you said something the mods too umbrage at. These things do not get forgotten overnight.

Once Purple Port was launched with free membership for the first year or so that was the end.

Have to admit reading a couple of finals posts on there I will not miss the endless carping of a small handful of individuals there.

At the end of the day for all the swipes by those who have fallen foul of Purple port management for some reason that site does what most want it to do. It puts a large number of photographers in contact with a huge base of models in an efficient manner. Something this site did for many years until it’s core structure was no longer able to cope with the growing expectations people had in terms of functionality and useability

On the positive side the Beta is coming along beautifully and will offer a slick and very different experience to its rival. NM does have some advantages too. Escape has a,ways made apoint of being impeccably professional and polite when dealing with any issues. There is very little bad blood about this site. The main issues have always been practical. A difficult sign up system that meant half of attempts failed. Far too restrictive free membership. Cruddy search options, particularly if not a paid member

I admit if I were not on the beta site I may well have given up again here by now (I’m one of the original members but left for a couple of years) having watched the way Escape is working his way systematically through the final design tweaks. Gradually bringing new functions online as he finalises the way he wants them to work, I feel positive about the sites future. Will it reclaim the crown? I’m not sure but if it can become reasonably busy again and retain the sense of family this site had that will be good enough for me.

So soon after the update.

Unfortunate, but that's how the cookie crumbles.

It will be a sad day, been with them since as long as I can remember 2010, and that's some going

Sad but I did warn privately against going live with a new site until it was fully ready. Indeed Matt originally intended launching months earlier and fixing as it went along. Even with that delay though there were still a few too many issues and the design side had very little change with the changes there were not fully thought through

Today’s user based websites are getting increasingly complex. Hence why this one has been taking years. Yet you still get people leaping on the forums explaining how they could have it all done in a couple of weeks or so. Strangely if you bother to visit their site, if they actually have on, it proves rather an anti climax

I still think there is room for one more major uk player but simply going head to head with the current leader is not the way. It has to be a very different offering that appeals to those who for some reason will not use the current leader and to those like me who are prepared to have a cuople of subscriptions as long as the two sites have different and worthwhile attractions to justify that. Quite what that is for me I will know when I see it I guess but the new NM may fit that bill if supported by enough people.

I think that someone should buy it from Matt, but how much he will charge is another matter so soon after that update.

Someone has tried I gather from the forum but Matt has not responded. I doubt it would be worth a lot. I made a bit for the old 'The Models Club' site many years back when it was put up on Ebay. I think it went for about £3K in the end. The new owner made a few noises about getting it up and going again but it has now been made a pay per view porn site. Still using the original design too.

Remember it is not just the initial purchase. There will also be significant ongoing running costs and I doubt the current membership is anything close to what is needed to make a profit.

I guess something could happen at the last minute, I even considered it briefly myself but unless there is someone who has both the time and significant funds to take the site forward I think it is better to bow out gracefully

I know there are ongoing costs like the site costs and extras like storage for all the storage of pictures and data etc...and processing payments
