So if you think you have anything over there on your portfolio you want to keep now would be a good time to pop in and say any goodbyes.

On a more positive note. Fuck the new Net-model site looks slick

So that is it. RIP Purestorm. It's been a year of saying goodbye to a few too many people and things that had become a part of my life. Roll on the new Net-Model

I'm stuck in a time warp until net-model is finished being upgraded as I still have my paid membership photos from 2014 (when I ceased paid membership) which I can't replace,

Decided to delete old photos until I reach free member levels then putting more recent ones here pending the reopening of new premium membership.

In the meantime I'm also upgrading my own portfolio site,

The free membership is a lot bigger than in times past. I'm on free membership at the moment and have been a while. it is now 50 images as long as you keep within an overall size allowance pf 20Mb

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. Currently reducing from 100 photos, 50 is good :]

Sad to see it go. Matt should really have given more time so see if a possible buy out could have been possible

RIP Purestorm

Mat should have finished the new site properly before launching. I was Beta testing there too and it was obvious there were far too many design and functionality issues still. For some reason though he felt he needed to launch before the new GDPR rules came into effect.

I know a couple of people were muttering about buying it out and indeed I did consider it myself. Once I got first sight of the Beta NM though it became obvious the random tweaks Mat had made were not going to be anything like enough to compete. There is only so many sites that can be supported at the end of the day and I would much rather this one get a shot at a resurgance

I got the impression that Matt had bought in some sort of template but was incapable of altering it. There were loads of bugs which should have been easy to correct yet he never did them.
The one improvement was it could be rendered on a smartphone but, to be honest, other than that, the previous version had many more features.
I also got the imression that Matt is no business man and didn't spend enough time and effort in attracting new people.

I am looking forward to the new site being launched. It is good to know something is happening now. Even if it is only in the background for most of us at the moment.

Par for the course!! Always took a long time to get accepted by Purestorm.

I'm still awaiting the refund of my premium sub I paid in advance.

Much like this site until this point (bit before my time as a shooter), I never had or rather, created the opportunity to use Purestorm in any other way than posting a few pics.
I didn't develop a personal connection with the site, but I am still sad that it has now gone. I do mainly use PurplePort, but I would be very happy if there are some viable alternatives and options as well.

Any time something like that (Purestorm closing) happens, it might be an indicator of a larger issue, such as a changing marketplace that is heading over to social media.

I hope not.

I know it is partly inevitable, but I feel that sites such as this, PP, MCM, MM and any others can offer far more in terms of developing long term working relationships, feedback and security and a general community spirit of like-minded people who offer encouragement and feedback to their colleagues and peers.

Numbers, of course are important, very important; but so is loyalty and community.
If people find a home, and feel supported, they will stay

Wishing you the very, very best on the next stage of your journey.

Jesus! I didn't even get a notification so no chance to screen cap my references - this was the first I've heard about it and I was only on there 3 weeks ago!!

Erm there were at least two threads on the closure dominating the forums for most of February!! In a way the fact you still missed it says it all I guess

I first found out from a post elsewhere, which site I can't recall now.

As Redbaron says there were two threads on the forum but if, like me, you never read that but just check mail, casting calls and search models you would not have noticed.
There ought to have been a banner at the top of the main page.

I , like many others, seldom read forums - I did read Purestorm ones after the revamp to point out bugs (and now read these ones for the first time since I joined about 9 years ago)

Yes for many there was no notice of closure, in fac I know people who had older operating sysytems who couldn't view Purestorm after the rewrite as it used the latest https systen rather than http (and it took me some time to explain this to Matt)

No he shouldn't have accepted new members once he decided to close down. I see the company's accounts to 31st May 2018 were filed at Companies House last week, hopefully I will get a refund of my subsciption fees before he liquidates the company.

I did read the initial forum post by Matt.

I'm sure it did state that the balance of subscriptions would be refunded.

Yes he said that in a post that he'd refund subscriptions but a week after closure I'm still waiting. I emailed him but no reply

I think I can wite a refund off - no response.
I have Matt's home address from Companies House but I don't think it worthwile sending a recorded delivery letter to him (and his wife who appears to be Company Secretary)

Am I the only person who thought PS was a sanctimonious, up itself, unresponsive and generally unappealing site? I hesitate to say good riddance, because that feels like kicking it while it's down, but you know what I mean.

NM may have had its problems over the years but it's always felt like home to me, if you know what I mean.

UM,

NO.

It was founded by a cadre that were thrown off NM for their behaviour.

Interestingly, the most badly behaved in the bunch was then thrown off PS!!!

Huge Hairy Jeremy

Remember, Trolls' brains are silica based and only function properly at temperatures lower than minus 72 degrees Kevin.
