At approximately 3:30PM EST (8:30PM GMT) on April 20th, 2010, we experienced a critical hardware failure on our main file server resulting in our website going offline. At that time, we authorized the implementation of our disaster recovery plan and had a new server put into place. Unfortunately, due to the amount of time it takes to get a new server implemented we experienced significant downtime. Fortunately, we were able to restore all data (and images) to the exact point prior to the server failure.
Our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience for the downtime and we greatly appreciate the patience everyone has displayed. To our Premium Members, we will be offering compensation for the downtime they have experienced. ---
Areas Currently Offline:
SSL Connection - We have reissued a new certificate for the server. Once this has been sent to us, we will have the SSL back online. This can take up to 24 hours; however, we have requested an expedited response.
Outbound Mail - As prior to the server failure, we still have outbound email notification offline. We will start working on restoring this feature first thing in the morning (US time). We expect to have mail going out tomorrow.
Premium Membership Compensation
As discussed above, we will be issuing compensation for our Premium Members for the inconvenience experienced with the server downtime. There are several options currently on the table, and we will make an announcement tomorrow afternoon once we have addressed the above issues. ---
These types of failures, while extremely rare (first time in 10 years of doing business), are the realities of the online world. We have been working very hard to get the servers back online. I greatly appreciate the emails of support that we have received over the last 12 hours and I ensure you that we will do our best to get all services back online in a timely fashion.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to either reply here or send me NmMail. Thanks.
Sincerely,
James Hussein Managing Member, Net-Model, LLC.

Well done and thank you James. I bet you have pulling your hair out over it.
I am sure the moaners will want to say something; I have seen moans on PS, but life isn't always straight forward and things go wrong. It's hardly the end of the world but nice to see the site back on line.

happens, James. By way of compensation I'd like either two weeks in Bermuda or else an extra day's subscription on 29th February next year. Whichever involves less cost to NM is okay by me. Having seen the fuss that some have been making about not being able to access the place for a short time it makes one wonder what they would do if the internet as a whole was to be shut down to foil a cyber-terrorist attack. It's like flying, there is always some turbulence and bumps before you get to the smooth air and fly high. Good luck. Ace, Ace, Baby!

Well done for getting the site up and running again James.
One issue is that the "delete image" function does not seem to be working. It asks for the confirmation that I want to delete but then comes up with a message saying the website cannot display the page instead of confirming the deletion and the image remains.

These things happen James. Thanks for getting the site back up as soon as you could. As said above, no compensation expected.

Everything is subject to the odd failure...... The site is not immune. I personally think it offers service that is more than commensurate with the charges, in terms of upgrades, and timings of them. I go along with the "no compensation required" crew.

Good to have the site back but I can't access the front page. Whichever means I use of accessing it, all I get is the message 'Under Construction' Is anyone else having this problem?

James,
Well done getting the site restored so quickly. If you've restored from tape it's amazingly quick and even from disk it's impressive.

Same as you Richard & Martin Not being able to see the front page means we can't see who's on-line or any newly up-loaded images.
