Firstly I'd check whether you were affected by this trojan, I wasn't.

If you've concerns turn off Java (and enable manually when essential) and install a program called little snitch which monitors outgoing connections on your system.

I've had far more problems with AV software over the years than viruses so I'm not yet ready to install them on my Macs.

There was two other attacks for OS X this week which got eclipsed by the Java attack, the first was targeted Word documents and the second mutated to attack PDF documents.

Whilst Java is a major attack vector and has been for over a year on any system, you should a) remove it or b) remove any dependencies from the browser (add-ins or ActiveX) to minimise infection from a drive by attack.

There is little need for Java these days unless you are forced to run ROES or similar apps.

You should also run a secure browser (not Safari) of which Chrome and Opera have the best record at present cross-platform, as does IE 9 on Win Vista/7.
